Our Blog

Welcome to our adventure

Just like so many others in the world, we sat around during the initial Covid lockdowns and pondered what we would do if we could.  That's when my son and I ran into the Amazon series Expedition Overland.

It caused me to reflect on my experiences taking hiking trips with family and friends in the Colorado and Arkansas mountains over the years. There were life changing lessons learned through planning trips and the need for adapting and overcoming obstacles both mental and physical while being fully dependent on gear, partners and experience.  Now that my son is getting old enough to take on these types of trips my body is starting to groan under the strain from all of the great adventures taken.

This is when I decided to take an alternate route to help create an opportunity for adventure and life lessons for my son.  While we don't have the same expectations as the Expedition Overland team, we decided to create a multi trip bucket list for our itinerary.  Beyond the small trips through the years, we plan to travel from our home state of Florida across the country in 3 directions.

Our logo is the key to the name we gave our truck and the reason for this website. I envisioned a fully loaded overlanding rig mimicking a turtle with its home on its back. While we'll ultimately have destinations, it's more about the journey and not just trying to burn up the highways. With that in mind, we're the Exploring Turtle making our way across the country, and we would like to share the steps we're taking to build our rig, choose our gear, and ultimately take you along on our journey in hopes it inspires you to create your own adventure of a lifetime.
